Day 18 - Sunday, 9th May - Venice & Burano

Our day started early to catch a ferry into Venice where we were one of the first lot of tourists to get there. St Mark's Square was virtually empty and quiet! Saw a couple of Cruise ships coming into dock with what seemed like thousands of people on the deck all waiting to come off! We went to our Veneitan glass blower demo then shopped around Venice. We got some nice venetian masks and other shopping too.
We walked back to St Mark's Square where there were thousands of tourists everywhere. (Hate to see it in Summer!) We had enough time to go into St Mark's church which was all decorated in gold mosaics & other colourful mosaics. A very old and historic church. We even got to go on the first floor of the church to look at the view around St Mark's too. A quick look around Venice and then met all the others of our group to go to the seaside village of Burano by ferry.
Burano is full of colourful houses and canals where lacemaking is their speciality (yes we bought some but not too much.) We had an enormous seafood lunch, everything seafood - far too much food - we left early because we were just so full . We tried to walk it off! Back on the ferry for our last glimpse of beautiful Venice before heading back to the hotel. Rome tomorrow!
